The forums are now Google groups which you can enjoy both through the web or via email -- your choice. To access the web interface:
When you join WCC, you are automatically a member of a number of web discussion groups or forums. By default, you will get an email every time someone posts to one of these groups but you can control this. You can get all the messages in a group once a day or never get email at all. To control this, first go to the web interface for the forums. See How can I get to the forums? Or just follow a link that is at the bottom of every email from the forums.
All WCC rides are recorded in Ride with GPS.
The club supports rides in a number of disciplines: Gravel, MTB, CX and Road. Within each discipline, a few different cultures are supported. When you check out the weekly rides in Ride with GPS (See How do I find out about rides?) the name of each ride includes the discipline and the culture. Often, when you go into the details of the ride, there will be more information that will give you a better idea if the ride is a fit for you. If in doubt, post a question in the Ride forum.
When you RSVP to a ride it gives the ride leader an idea of how many are going to be there. They may want to plan for splitting into smaller groups if a large number of members will be riding. Most importantly, if you RSVP, you will be sent an email if the ride is cancelled. But please be aware that if you have turned off email messages in Ride with GPS, you will not get the cancellation email. See How do I turn on messages in Ride with GPS?
Removing your RSVP is as simple as pressing “remove me”. The “Your RSVP: Yes remove me” appears in the same place as the “RSVP” or “I Participated” links.
If you RSVP in Ride with GPS, you will get an email if the ride is cancelled (unless you have messages in Ride with GPS turned off. See How do I turn on messages in Ride with GPS?.) If you did not RSVP, you can find the event in Ride with GPS and see if the ride event name is prefixed with CANCELLED. See How do I find out about rides?
Email messaging is on by default in Ride with GPS but if you have turned it off, you can turn it back on by going to your settings select Preferences and make sure the New messages box is checked
No. The app has two primary functions: it will track your rides much like Strava and it does a good job of turn-by-turn directions to follow the predefined route of a ride, including audio cues -- so, if you don’t have a bike computer that does turn by turn, this is a good substitute.
Unfortunately, you cannot RSVP from the Ride with GPS app. You can, however, use your phone browser to access ridewithgps.com and do it there. See How do I find out about rides? It’s basically the same with a little more scrolling on the small format.
The club is exploring ways of maintaining the information in the old forums. For now, you can access them just as you always have. When we complete the transition we will provide an update. If there is any content you really want, you should make a copy now.
If you don’t see your question answered here, you can either post a question to the Inquiry category of the WCC Private Group (see How can I get to the forums?) or just send an email to info@waterloocyclingclub.ca
